Turning lemons into lemonade.

Filed under: Uncategorized — akcb @ 3:50 am

Lemon: The city cut down one of our trees today. It was on the outside of our fence facing Holmes Road. They cut it with no notice, significantly reducing the afternoon shade in our backyard. Apparently they cut it to prevent it from buckling the sidewalk. Ok… I can live with this I suppose, since I guess I would have eventually been grumbling on this blog about being assessed for a new sidewalk, but they’ve left sections of trunk lying on the ground & sidewalk and about 5 feet of trunk still sticking up out of the ground with a big “W” spray-painted on it.

Lemonade: If they don’t come finish their hackjob soon, I’ll take some pleasure in hauling the sections of trunk out to Brookside and depositing them in the mayor’s front yard. I’ll take even more satisfaction in hiring a skilled chainsaw carver to turn the section of the trunk still in the ground into a message for the city. I’m thinking big block letters reading “GLORIA MUST GO!” or similar. Ideas?

  1. this is perfect. sorry about your tree.

  3. How about “Stan Harris must go!” since he’s the head of public works. Not that it matters, really. The whole of City Hall if full of people like that. They cut down all the trees in front of my house several years ago because AT&T wanted to put in a fiber optic cable. No notice, just lots of noise and a fair amount of trauma.

  4. I think you should have it carved into a re-creation of a certain wood ashtray you have. If the city doesn’t move to finish the removal job, one of the local churches is bound to.

And if they should leave it alone, hook up some plumbing to it and make your own contribution to KC’s reputation as the City of Fountains.

    Wouldn’t that be a hoot!

P.S. If you do it, have it circumsized in acknowledgment of the originator of the idea.
