After more years of service than could reasonably be expected, my elderly Dell finally died over the weekend. After giving it a suitable burial in the backyard, we scooted down to Office Depot where I purchased the new love of my life, an HP Pavilion dv9700. An AMD X2 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 130GB internet porn storage device, a 17″ screen and an extended keyboard. Sweet.
Two things I don’t like: the case is shiny and a magnet for fingerprints. I don’t really see myself using the little polishing cloth HP thoughtfully included. I’ve resigned myself to it looking as though I store it at the bottom of a well. The other thing is when I opened it I discovered a spacer on the keyboard missing between the Escape key and the F1 key. HP offered a full keyboard replacement (and a six-week turnaround) as my only option. Office Depot offered to exchange the machine, but I’d already started customizing and copying stuff over from my old hard drive because my toy was shiny & new and I wanted to play with it. I guess I’ll just snag one from the display model next time I’m in the store.
