Heart attack.

When I read this bit of news last night, I thought “Oh lord help her, Miss Ann Wilson gonna break her in half.” Less than 24 hours later AND one very angry email from regular commenter Mo, sure enough the Sisters Wilson have taken to the internets to denounce the use of ‘Barracuda’ by the McCain campaign. Cease & desist, fuckers.

And from EW.com:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late ’70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

Uh, they’re Republicans. Stealing is kinda their thing. Elections, employee pension funds, war stories, “family” recipes, copyrighted material. All the same really.

  1. I wonder if Miss Ann Wilson has ever heard of the term “fair use.”

  2. I wasn’t REALLY angry. Hence the mild choice, “nuts to her.” Which I enjoyed, and may use again.

But I digress. Turns out Barracuda’s author, Roger Fisher, is taking his royalty payments and donating them to the Obama campaign.

As the eminent philosopher Matthew McConaughey would put it, “Beau-taaaaay.”
